With the re-election of President Donald Trump, many are wondering how his administration will tackle policy relating to Big Tech. JD Vance has made it clear in a recent interview that they plan to hold Big Tech accountable and demand fair treatment and free speech for all, no matter their political views.
No Censorship
During an interview with Margaret Brennan of CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Vice President JD Vance highlighted the overreach that has been exercised by tech companies:
“We believe fundamentally that big tech does have too much power. They can either respect Americans’ constitutional rights, stop engaging in censorship, or face the consequences under Donald Trump’s leadership.”
Vance also described tech companies as having a “monopoly over free speech.” There is clear evidence that individuals with conservative beliefs have battled discrimination on various social media platforms. Many of President Trump‘s social media accounts – including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat – have been suspended in the past. Google also suppressed news coverage about his assassination attempt, clearly hiding search results, and multiple platforms falsely claimed that the photo circulating of him with his fist raised after the incident was altered.
This is not the first time Vance has called for free speech across social media platforms. He emphasized the need to hold Big Tech accountable during his time in the Senate as well, maintaining that social media is a necessary communication channel comparative to a phone:
“It seems preposterous to me to think that 40 or 50 years ago, you would have had your telephone service turned off for having the wrong political views. Now you’re regularly denied access to modern forms of communication for having the wrong political views.”
Harnessing Technology to Promote Freedom
Here at ALTERNcloud, our mission is to combat Big Tech’s decisions that limit privacy and restrict access to information, and we look forward to working with and seeing how the new presidential administration will keep Big Tech accountable.
We are dedicated to providing digital infrastructure to support family-centered, pro-life, and conservative apps and content. Businesses and organizations don’t have to risk being ostracized by mainstream tech for their beliefs as they create and distribute content.
“Giant corporations and conglomerates suppress, de-platform, or cancel content that they disagree with, but family-safe apps, conservative websites, and Christian social accounts must be free to function securely online.” — David Lejeune, ALTERNcloud CEO
