In today’s hybrid workplace, having the ability to access large quantities of data from multiple locations via cloud storage is not simply convenient, it’s essential. But while there are a variety of cloud services that provide ways for users to remotely store their data, sometimes it can be difficult to determine the best cloud hosting plan for your business. What is actually the difference between Public Clouds, Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), and Hosted Private Clouds (HPCs)?
Public Clouds, HPCs, and VPCs: the key differences
While public cloud services operate by using a shared infrastructure where resources are pooled, VPCs set aside private hosting spaces that are only accessible to select users. HPCs are very similar to VPCs, offering the same logical isolation of data within a select virtual space. However, HPCs also provide clients with their own dedicated physical hardware, or “bare metal,” which is fully isolated and has its own control plane, providing clouds tenants with even more robust security.
Who needs HPCs?
For many organizations, VPCs provide more than enough security and privacy, but for businesses that handle vast loads of private personal information (PPI) or other sensitive data and need increased levels of security, or are concerned about compliance (such as HIPAA and PCI), HPCs provide the optimal cloud environment for their data. At ALTERNcloud, our clients can select from either multi-tenant or single-tenant Clouds: EZ Cloud & Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) and Hosted Private Cloud (HPC) depending on their business needs.
