This Halloween, Snapchat is collaborating with Disguise Costumes to bring users an AR costume try-on and purchase feature.
Now, Snap users can virtually try on costumes from the 2022 Disguise collection, offering character options from a variety of shows like Power Rangers, Transformers, “the Office,” and Harry Potter.
How it works
To use the Disguise try-on AR lens, simply visit their Snapchat Profile or use Snapchat’s Lenses Explorer to search for specific brand names (i.e., “Lord of the Rings” or “Game of Thrones”). After opening the lens, step far enough away so that it can get a full-body scan, and then see a digital rendition of what the costume looks like on you. From there, you can tap through to purchase.
The rise of AR shopping
This campaign comes at an opportune moment, as 80% of Snapchat users plan to use the app during Halloween. Plus, AR shopping tools are continuing to grow in popularity: just this past spring, a 16,000-person Snapchat survey revealed that 92% of Gen Z users are looking for AR shopping tools.
Since January 2021, over 250 million Snapchat users have used AR shopping lenses a total of 5 billion times, and this past June, another survey showed that that 80% of respondents reported higher confidence in purchases made after using AR tools.
Discussing the recent Disguise partnership, Ben Schwerin, senior vice president of content and partnerships at Snap, remarked:
“These Halloween AR try-on experiences represent what makes shopping on Snapchat so seamless and fun. We’re thrilled to partner with Disguise to bring these Lenses to our community, as well as make choosing a Halloween costume that works for you, without ever having to step foot in a store, easier than ever on Snapchat.”
